Buskerfest – Ottawa 06.08.2017

Yes I’m a bit late on this one. I posted this because it reminds me of how I never ever get tired of the stories told in the expressions on people’s faces.

I found it extremely odd yesterday when this man ( who was watching me ) decided to sit himself down right in front of where my camera had been pointing. I wish it was always that simple to get people to pose for a portrait.

This web version isn’t quite up to what I want it to be.

This photograph was actually taken at a high ISO and is not the sharpest but I only managed to get the one frame.

Doing Lines

I’ve always loved the lines on the crosswalk at Kent and Sparks streets and yesterday, unexpectedly, this young woman appeared.

Once in a while I’ll come across a list on “Where to photograph in Ottawa?” Well… why not try the steps on Parliament Hill? So many happy faces, so much pride and just a lot of fun.

For me this is a no-brainer. I won’t however tell you which one I’d choose or why. I’ll leave that question for you to answer for yourself.

Thought – Ottawa 10.06.2017

This type of photograph is so common, so cliché. Still I often see myself as this young boy on the steps of the First Baptist Church on Laurier Avenue W.

I thought I’d change things up a bit by posting this photograph of the
Reconciliation Monument on Sussex Drive in Ottawa.

I’d like to say that over the years that I’ve been influenced by certain photographers but that really isn’t true. It’s only in the last few years with my initiation to Youtube that I really started finding out about many of the great photographers.

In early days I read many many books on photography but more of the “how-to” variety and many of the photographs that I saw while flipping pages, embedded themselves in memory. This is one of those photographs.

It is estimated that over 2 billion pictures are taken everyday but of those 2 billion, just how many of them etch themselves into your soul and move you? To me, that’s the difference between a picture and a photograph.

This is one of my all-time favourite photographs.
